Depot Lakes Conservation Area is nestled in the heart of the Land o Lakes tourist region, just north of the village of Verona. This Conservation Area is 1,214 hectares (3,000 acres) in size. Second, Third and Fourth Depot Lakes make up this Conservation Area, and offer some of the best fishing in eastern
Ontario. This is our only Conservation Area that offers camping. There are 60 seasonal sites located here, many of them waterfront sites. There are also 20 interior sites, thoughtfully sprinkled along the shoreline as well as on a few of the tiny islands of Second Depot Lake. Access to these is by canoe, and a few can be backpacked in from the hiking trails. All campsites have picnic tables, fire pits and outdoor privies.
Day use activities include hiking and paddling. There are approximately 9 km of hiking trails through the Canadian Shield at Depot Lakes Conservation Area. Hikers should be aware that the terrain is rugged and appropriate footwear is required. Out on the trail you may see deer, moose, black bears, a variety of bird species and many other small creatures. The hiking trails begin on the west side of the Seasonal Campground area, about 1 km from the main gate.
