Silver Lake Provincial Park
By Ontario Parks

Silver Lake near Perth is a long, narrow trough of water carved out by glaciers. While its long sandy beach is the big attraction, a marsh at the eastern end of the lake is another. A boardwalk crosses the marsh through the noisy, colourful habitat of painted turtles and bullfrogs, red-winged black birds and mallards.

Camping
At Silver Lake, 148 tent and trailer sites -- including two barrier-free and 26 electrical sites - are scattered along a shady ridge and in treed campgrounds close to the lake. A barrier-free comfort station with showers is centrally located, and vault toilets are situated throughout the park.

Picnics and Day Use
A large picnic shelter with barbecue facilities and the beach nearby are ideal for family gatherings.

Hiking
Marsh Trail 0.5 km return (30 minutes) easy
When you cross the marsh by boardwalk to higher ground, you see a clear transition between wetland and upland forest. The transition zone is rich in flora and fauna.

Fishing
Northern Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Lake Trout, Yellow Perch, and sunfish provide ideal fishing for all ages and abilities.

Canoeing
A meandering creek running through the park makes for a pleasant canoe trip during the spring and early summer when the water level is higher or paddle on Silver Lake. Canoe rentals are available at the park.

Wildlife Viewing
A wide variety of animals, including skunks, woodchucks, raccoons, rabbits and chipmunks live here. Harmless snakes, painted turtles, toads, bullfrogs and leopard frogs inhabit the wetland. Overhead, see and hear the eastern kingbird and red-winged blackbird.

Boating
9 km long Silver Lake is large enough to accommodate all types of boats - motorboats, sailboats, paddle boats and canoes. A boat ramp is next to the large beach. Canoe rentals are available at the park.

Swimming
The wide crescent of sandy beach is Silver Lake's main attraction. A smaller sandy beach is near the picnic shelter.
